Course Description

Quality is a critical factor in organisational success, influencing customer satisfaction, operational efficiency and long-term sustainability. This unit provides an introduction to the key concepts and methodologies of Total Quality Management.

The course begins by exploring the concept of quality and its evolution in industry, including contributions from leading quality thinkers such as Deming, Juran and Crosby.

Learners will examine the core principles of TQM, including customer focus, continuous improvement, employee involvement and process-oriented thinking.

The unit then introduces essential quality tools and techniques, such as flowcharts, cause-and-effect diagrams, Pareto analysis and basic statistical concepts.

Learners will explore quality management systems and standards, including ISO-based frameworks, and understand how organisations implement and maintain quality systems.

The course concludes with an overview of continuous improvement methodologies and the role of leadership and organisational culture in sustaining quality initiatives.

Throughout the unit, learners will develop the ability to identify quality issues, apply basic improvement tools and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
